PRESS RELEASE to Sachnews Jammu Kashmir By Dental Surgeons Association: Dental Surgeons Association Jammu Kashmir(DSA-JK) is holding a press conference to urge the state government especially Chief minister Jenab Omar Abdullah to address the grievances of the Dental Surgeons community at the earliest. Dr. Asif Iqbal Chowdhary President of association said that our association is becoming a mass movement to fight out for the cause of dental surgeons of the state. He said that more than 1300 unemployed Dental Surgeons are in the state and every year more than 300 dentists are adding to this huge number which is the cause of great concern as they are not absorbed since 2008. From the last 6 years there has been no fresh recruitment of dental surgeons in the state. He said that on the one hand Prime Minister of India is talking about the skill development of the youth and on the other side the potential of already skilled workers and human resources in the form of dental surgeons is not utilized and their future is sinking in dark. He said government is only interested in developing the infrastructure in the form of big buildings but the manpower which can run these institutions are not engaged. He said Chief Minister of the state is saying that he has changed 180 degree, we urge and request him that he should embrace this forgotten lot of Dental Surgeons and utilize their services for the betterment of the state as he has promised in the meeting on 27-05-2014 at his residence Gupkar . Even after the verbal assurance in that meeting CM has not given any good news whereas he is fulfilling the demands and aspirations of all other departments and societies. Time and again state Govt. is not concerned regarding the wastage of human resources in the form of dental surgeons He said at present there are three Dental Colleges in the state and only 12 seats of MDS which include 8 seats in general category and 4 seats in reserved category (which is in Govt. Dental College Srinagar). On one hand the Dental Surgeons are not getting the jobs and on the other hand they are not able to pursue their higher studies. Even the Dental Surgeons of the state are not able to compete at all India level because of the seat share not provided by the state institution to the centre which is depriving this section of the society. President of the association also said that there is no separate directorate of dentistry (unlike Himachal Pradesh has separate directorate) due to which our grievances and issues are not being addressed in the health sector of our state. He said we have met Hon’ble Health Minister of the state Mr. Taj Mohi-u-Din twice but these meetings have not provided any fruitful results. He said that government should come out with positive policies for absorption of Dental Surgeons by any means within one week otherwise we the Dental Surgeons of state have no options other than to come to the streets. More than 70 Dental Surgeons were present.
