People are getting up in arms about this recent article about sleep training newborns. We want to make a PSA: newborns wake frequently at night. Due to the size of their stomachs, the biological need to wake frequently (did you know that frequent night wakes are linked with lower incidents of SIDS?), and developing body temperature regulation, newborns waking often at night is actually a good thing. Plus, if you are breastfeeding, breastmilk is digested quite quickly (not much waste) and a womans levels of prolactin are higher at night than during the day, having her baby latched on several times a night means increased milk production. Its not uncommon for moms with babies that sleep through the night early to experience a dip in their milk supply so intentionally creating an absences of milk demand during those critical hours could mean sacrificing your breastfeeding goals. foxnews/health/2014/08/13/new-method-to-help-newborns-sleep-through-night/ For more information on what is actually NORMAL newborn behavior and why, check out this link: theleakyboob/2011/08/baby-explains-normal-newborn-behavior/ ~Jessica
