Peter Pan, - Review: I usually stay clear of television movies on this sight but the live performance of, Peter Pan, on NBC will be an exception. Live performances are not new for television nor NBC. Recently Carry Underwood starred in, The Sound of Music, and, Peter Pan, was a regular on NBC especially in the sixties. This particular performance starred Allison Williams daughter of NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams as Pan. Captain James Hook was played by Christopher Walken. The over all performance was lack luster at best. As one who has been in several stage productions as well as directing and producing some this live stage performance lacked energy and putting it bluntly talent. It looked as if the entire company never had a complete run through to see how the production flowed and as such it was choppy and segmented feeling like several separate shows rather than one. Williams was at times dull as Pan who is a character with not just energy but child like enthusiasm about everything. Walken was stiff and at points seemed almost lost but had some exceptional moments especially in several dance numbers with his pirates. In fact the pirates were the only real bright point in the entire production. The one musical highlight belonged to Kelli OHara who played Mrs. Darling. He voice and stage presence were exceptional in a cast that was not. NBC is planning more of these live production and lets hope they do better with the rest because they failed with this one. 2 out of 5 stars. The following video shows how to do a live, Peter Pan, performance with Mary Martin in the starring role which aired for years on Television in the sixties! Enjoy!
