Prescribed burn at Cleland Conservation Park A prescribed burn is planned at Cleland Conservation Park today, Tuesday, 25 November 2014. - The prescribed burn is expected to start at 11am and should be completed by 9pm. - The burn will affect about 62ha of land along the northern boundary of the park adjacent to the southern side of Greenhill Road, Greenhill. - All access tracks in the Chambers Gully area will be closed. - Greenhill Road will be restricted to one lane and detours will be in place between 11.00am and 9.00pm in the Greenhill area and traffic delays are expected. - Greenhill Road and Mt Lofty Summit Road may be affected by smoke; and smoke is expected to be visible in the area for several days. - Crews will remain at the burn site until it is safe to leave. The burn will be carried out by the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR) on behalf of the Mount Lofty Ranges Fire Co-operative. The primary objective of this burn is to reduce fuels in the area to prevent the spread of bushfire. It is part of a state-wide program of prescribed burning in high-risk public land areas this spring. Creating strategically-located, fuel-reduced areas through prescribed burning is essential in helping to reduce the potential spread and impact of bushfires on communities and the environment by providing earlier containment options for firefighters.
