President of the ICC and Min. of Agriculture, Sharad Pawar thinks it is stupid to declare the latest Hailstorm Disaster as a National Calamity. Latest estimates suggest over eighteen lakh hectares have been destroyed and official damage figure pegged at Rs 10,000 Crore. The unofficial figures are estimated to be Rs 25,000 Cr to Rs 30,000 Crore. Twenty-two debt-ridden farmers have committed suicides in last three weeks since the hailstorm completely destroyed their livelihoods. According to latest reports today, eight more farmers have killed themselves in last twenty-four hours. Yet, we still are given candidate options such as His Majesty Sharad Pawar, and we are advised that we should exercise our franchise. The worlds largest democracy makes a mockery of democracy, election after election.
