Professor David Boonin, University of Colorado, Department of Philosophy, will be speaking at Kwantlen: Monday March 24, 2014 10-12 Surrey Campus Fir 128 Why Should Blackmail be Legal? “I am legally free to decide whether or not to reveal embarrassing information about you. You are legally free to decide whether or not to give me some of your money. The freedom to blackmail a person seems to be nothing more than a combination of these two freedoms. But blackmail is illegal. In this talk, I will present a puzzle that arises from these facts, consider a variety of solutions that have been offered to the puzzle, argue that none of these solutions are successful, and conclude that blackmail should be legal.” This is a talk geared for undergraduates, but should be of general interest as well.
