Psalms 121:1-2 I will lift up my eyes to the hills — From whence comes my help? 2 My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. NKJV Our most natural response is to go elsewhere, before we call on God. If we are sick we run to the doctor. When we are short of cash we run to our boss, for overtime, or extra work. There is nothing wrong with any of the above, but should these things be our first thought, our first instinct and our source of help? God is usually the last and not the first person we go to for help. David said, I will lift my eyes…up high, beyond the hills.. from where does my help come from? From those who have power, wealth and influence? No! While my boss gives me my paycheck, he is merely a vessel that God used to bless me. While the doctor may have noble intentions, he is merely an instrument in the hands of God. It is God who gives life, strength, health and wealth? Therefore King David says; my eyes will be lifted higher than the hills, and my spirit will cry out to the one who has the ability to help me. “My help comes from the Lord, the one who made the heavens and the earth.” Our first thought then when we are in need, when we are in trouble or when we need a friend; it should be Jesus. As we lift our eyes to heaven, He can give us a fresh perspective, or give us the strength and courage to face the obstacles. As we do that, we become candidates for a miracle, and also of becoming witnesses of what Jesus is able to do for us, through us or through others. Jesus said, “if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain…” Many times we fail to understand that the mountain may not move when we wanted to move, but the mountain of unbelief, cynicism, or fears will fade away; if we have faith. We may not get the answer we were looking for, when we cry out to Him; but we will begin to discover His love, His purpose and concern for us. We will discover that we are able to cope with the outcome that otherwise, would have drowned us in despair. Faith for the believer is more than an emotion, is our comfort, our Hope that though we live in a sinful and imperfect world, one day all of that is going to change. Revelation 21:1-7 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." 5 Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful." 6 And He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. 7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. NKJV
