READING THIS MAY MAKE YOU ANGRY… I sit here on Christmas day eating and drinking, sitting in my comfortable leather recliner in quiet contemplation. I find myself angry, yesterday on Christmas Eve I was parking at ASDA in Patchway Bristol and while driving around and around in search of a parking space I was surprised to see so many cars clamped where they lay coverd in big yellow stickers declairing in large red lettering “This is an UNTAXED VEHICLE”. As I managed to find a space I was saddened to see couple of old age pensioners, possibly in their eighties who had the misfortune of meeting the same fate. The old dear was sitting in the car with her head in her hands crying and lamenting with tears streaming down her weathered face. The Gentleman was pacing up and down outside the car, His hand waivig up and down in frustration at trying to use the DVLA automated payment service shopping bags lay at his feet spewing out tins of smart price vegitables and packs of biscuits as he kicks the clamp attached to his N reg Ford. I was instantly filled with a deep and terrible rage. I see two people, clearly in poverty shamed and huliliated in public on Christmas Eve. Deliberatly shackeled in a car park with their frozen food that tey have just spent the majority of their months state pension on thawing and wasting at their feet. This is a man that could have fought the facists in Normandy or Arnhiem and a woman who toiled in a factory while her city was being bombed around her, and now…today they… suffer this. It is despicable and shameful…ON CHRISTMAS EVE FOR CHRIST’S SAKE! The way I see it some jumped up little prick at the DVLA, probably a head of department earning 50-70K with a nice leased BMW 5 series private healthcare and pension plan thought to himself, “I have got targets to hit, I know… Ill send my enforcement officers to the supermarket car parks on Christmas Eve to clamp as many vehicles as possible, this will send a message to the public and enable me to get my big quarterly bonus, I can take my beautiful wife and two lovly daughters skiing in France at the end of January”. This is the result, poor families struugleing to cope with our annual consumerism ritual being hit not only with a car tax bill but also ridiculous fees that are paid to private security companies instead of the public purse. Now of course the DVLA have the legal right to do this, the penalties for not paying car tax are clear but is there really any need to go and do this to our fellow human beings on Chrisrtmas Eve? Surley the DVLA were already aware that these cars were not taxed as they now use a large national database. The only action needed would be to write to these people informing them of the penalty and enforcing it through court action if the vehicle is not taxed or SORN. But no someone took the decision to traumatise humiliate and extort money from these two old age pensioners at ASDA. 100 years ago today the Armies of England and Germany with no orders from command decided to emerge from their trenches to exchange gifts and have a game of football…they had every legal right to shoot, grenade and gas each other but no, that would be indecent as it was Christmas…good will to all men, the memory of this is a tribute to human decncy. Where was the good will to all men from the DVLA this Christmas Eve? There was none, instead… a campaign of intimidation and extortion on poor people. We know from V for Vendetta that people should not fear their governments…governments should fear their people. I f this story made you mad please share it and email the DVLA to complain, the way I see it if they get too many complaints from us by the end of this quarter the jumped up little head of department will not get his bonus as it will ruin his scorecard and he will be up for one god awful performance review in January..only takes a couple of sentances in an email to log a complaint against them… You can do it here… use the email service and select Any other vehicle tax enquiry not listed. https://gov.uk/government/organisations/driver-and-vehicle-licensing-agency/about/complaints-procedure They even let you email the chief executive, While what they did this Christmas Eve was legal it remains a vile, immoral act of bullying, these people are paid for by you…..
