REEP Kicks Off With A Homeowner Workshop Remember how long winter was last year? Did you get tired of being constantly cold? Many homes built in the last century or even in this century, can have areas that are drafty and on the cool side. There are simple to complex improvements you can make to keep winter outside, stay warmer inside and pay less for heating. Cook County Local Energy Project, CCLEP, has a Residential Energy Efficiency Program (REEP), a two-year pilot project. Participants during the first year have commented that they could feel the difference in their home the first day the work was complete. “I could feel it right away”, a homeowner explained. “I don’t know why I waited so long to do this”. A homeowner workshop this coming Thursday October 10th kicks off REEP for this heating season. Various techniques will be shown, discussed and tried. Information about how REEP works will be at the workshop, but you don’t have to sign up to attend. The workshop goal is to help people address some common energy issues found in most homes. Join Energy Auditor Chris Norman and CCLEP Coordinator, Virginia Danfelt this week, 6:30 PM at the Community Center. $5.00 donation and bring your questions and energy concerns. The REEP program uses an energy audit to evaluate your home. The information gleaned from the blower door test and infrared camera imaging is put through a calculator that turns data into information. An estimated cost of each suggested improvement along with an annual energy savings is calculated. Local contractors are suggested, but homeowners can do some of the work themselves. During the pilot project, CCLEP offers a $300 rebate on the $400 audit once improvements are made. See cookcountylocalenergy.org This workshop is funded in part by the Cook County Community Fund and supported by Cook County Higher Education and Cook County Extension.
