REFLECTION OF LIFE... this year has proved very difficult for Byron and myself in more ways than one. Not only are we fighting the recession to survive in business....but also we are learning that as age descends, the Government departments truly dont know their arse from their elbow!! We are forced to acknowledge, confirm, fight for and be treated like idiots for what the so called System says we are entitled to. Personally, I look back to the 60s when I was a kid...I lived in a street of terraced houses in a poor quarter of an area in South Wales. All cultures resided from Italians, Indians, Welsh, Chinese, Americans. The economic climate at the time was poor, ask yourself, has it ever recovered? BUT in those days, the Chinese lady across the street couldnt make up and light a real fire, so my mother did it every morning for her during winter. The OAP 5 doors up was a widow, so Mrs Ford in No 68 took over his laundry and cooked hot meals for him.... the family in No41 Mr & Mrs Sthuperic (Russian Norwegian?) looked out for and helped Mrs Cockerel in No95 who was in her dotage, a widow and a miserable cuss of a women but none the less they and the entire street looked out for her! SO WHERE has this love thy neighbour good grace gone? Where has our but for the grace of god go I attitude wained? Surely, in helping each other we are ALL surviving what life throws at us? When did pure selfishness step in...Whats mine is mine and sod you attitude! The materialism of the 21st Century....brings who gives a damn attitude....well I for one DO NOT subscribe! I will help all who I can...,who deserve to be helped, like those who have helped me/us in the past 4 years....why? Because where possible, I can and I will! MERRY CHRISTMAS X
