RICHARDSON, Texas -- The Lady Wildcats of Wiley College went ahead two sets to one Thursday, but were unable to stanch a Texas-Dallas comeback as the Comets took a thrilling five-set win. Scores of the match were 25-17, 23-25, 19-25, 25-21, 15-8. Abbie Barth knocked down a match-high 23 kills for the Comets (4-5), who won their second consecutive contest. Freshman outside hitter Lucy Ricord (Beaumont, Texas/Ozen) led four Wiley College players in double-figures with 15 kills. Susan Tsisiche (Kakamega, Kenya/William Jewell COllege) added 14 kills against only one error for a .406 hitting percentage. Diana Castaneda (Cali, Colombia) led Wiley with 28 digs. Wiley had all the momentum going into set four, but was unable to pull away from the Comets. UTD went on an 8-4 run to finish the set and force a deciding fifth set. Texas-Dallas then used a 6-1 run in the middle of the fifth set to establish an 11-6 lead, a lead the Comets would not relinquish. The Lady Comets are no strangers to Marshall volleyball fans, as they have given East Texas Baptist some great matches throughout the years in American Southwest Conference play. UT-Dallas won the last seven ASC East Division titles prior to the conference abandoning division play in 2013. The Lady Wildcats return to action Saturday when they travel to Hawkins for a tri-match at Jarvis Christian. They open play against the hosts at 12:30 p.m., and will then face LeTourneau at 2 p.m.
