Raven Elizabeth Bryant was born 12 weeks early on February 4th, 2014. She has been fighting for her life since day one. She weighed 2 pounds and was 12.5 inches long. She was delivered by emergency c-section due to low fluid, IGUR, pre-eclampsia, and a failing placenta. Raven was not born breathing, and had to be resuscitated immediately. She was immediately put on a ventilator, and ambulanced to Toledo Children’s Hospital from Blanchard Valley in Findlay, Ohio. We finally got to go see her in Toledo 3 days later. She was the smallest baby I have ever seen. They told us many times Raven would most likely not make it, and they didn’t even know if she would make it through the night. We were told many time there was no hope, and she was the sickest baby in the NICU. Raven spent 7 weeks on the ventilator, and was finally able to come off of it, after 2 rounds of steroids. She was then placed on CPAP. They tried to wean Raven from CPAP for 13 weeks, she was then sent to Nationwide Children’s in Columbus, Ohio, 2 hours away from her mom, dad, and big brother Damien. She was sent to Nationwide for tracheostomy and gtube surgeries. After arriving at Nationwide, Raven’s lungs began to get worse, and she caught pneumonia. After being at Nationwide for 4 days, Raven had to be put back on the ventilator and nitric oxide. She currently remains on the vent and nitric. If they are not able to wean Raven from the vent in the next couple of months, they will go through with the surgeries. Raven has never had a bottle, can not cry due to the vent, and can no longer tolerate being held. Raven turned 5 months old on July 4th, 2014, and we are told to expect her there for at least another 6 months.
