Received from a friend via email: To all my dear friends and loved ones, and your loved ones. Please save yourselves from this fate. I recently suffered a stroke and am so grateful that the clot was not in a spot which affected my communication skills. It has been possible to discover that several medicines can cause clots. The most important places where you dont want a clot are in your brain or heart. It has been shown in imaging that there are numerous clots in my brain. It was just a matter of which one would cause trouble first. There is a medication called PROTOS in this country, and called Protolos or Osseor elsewhere, chemically Strontium Ranelate. As far as I can discover, it has never been registered in the USA. This would have given me pause for thought had I known. It is prescribed as a remedy for osteoporosis, which I was on for more than one and a half years. A warning is given that it isnt suitable for patients who have had the heart attack that is called a Myocardial Infarction. No thought is given as to whether it could cause a first MI. An MI is basically a clot. A stroke, is also often caused by a clot, but no warning about stroke is given in the packaging. I have been told that there has recently been a warning about stroke in a journal. A further twist is that it seems to be clear that while use of the medication shows an increase in bone density on x-ray, it doesnt appear to reduce fracture risk. I have not been able to confirm this. Please dont remove my details from any forward lest this be taken to be a rumour.
