Remember that IMPORTANT post I wanted to tell you guys - TopicsExpress

Remember that IMPORTANT post I wanted to tell you guys about? Okay, so I wanted to talk to you guys about what Ive been posting for the past few days. Or, at least why I post the most common things that people seem to fight over when it comes to my news feed. ...... ...... ...... ...... Feminism White Privilege [Insert whatever you think I mention a lot here, and Ill get back to it] Feminism stuffs: I think some of you have this notion that I am anti-feminist. I really am not. I dont call myself feminist at all, but Im sure a lot of my views are feminist in itself. I prefer reading views through my news feed than Tumblr because I feel like most of the people on my list have strong opinions and sometimes it does strike a really good conversation. And sometimes Im not very good at adding to them, so most of the time I read, rather than comment. In any case, Ive been getting messages about how seeing responses have opened up a lot of different doors for people and they were happy to have at least acknowledged another perspective that they may have never considered without listening to another POV. I have a lot of my friends to thank for that. On a side note, I do post issues that occur with men because I do think that sometimes their issues are not told. I dont like mushing the discussion together because it ends up with a popularity contest on which gender has it worst, which is kind of stupid. But both genders do have separate issues which need to be talked about. There are valid issues that do occur with women, and there are valid issues that occur with men. And I would like to explore both. White Privilege: Oddly enough, I never really wanted to delve into this topic because I dont remember ever being prejudiced against when it came to institutionalized racism. Then I began to read more into it, saw articles here and there, listened podcasts, and then took a lot of history courses in college which really heightened my perspective on what it meant to have that kind of privilege. And it bummed me out just a little. Society knows that being white (and especially male) is beneficial as an American (ex - politics, big businesses) but that trickles down because of the effects of racism historically. We have gotten somewhat better as a nation, but the prejudices based on some factors like: -Ethnic names which can prevent jobs -Affirmative Action (which is sad that we still NEED this just to get jobs) - Being followed in the store to make sure you dont steal anything [That has happened to me before] - Being surprisingly nice for a black person These things are real. Its not made up. BUT BUT BUT BUT BUT You shouldnt feel ashamed for being white. Thats silly. You were born with that skin color, and youre gonna die with that skin color (more or less). AND, there are other factors. Not all white people will benefit from institutionalized racism (my godmother Kim Smith made a point). Its just a notion that being white is just better than being any other ethnicity for reasons as I posted above. I do feel like while there are still some racial issues in America, I think the black community still doesnt have their own crap together. And it cant always be blamed on privilege. Sometimes we just dont know how to even take care of our own people, compared to other nationalities, who have great family support. So, yeah...theres like only so much white people can do to help support our cause, lol. We gotta support ourselves too. In short: I dont hate any nationality, please dont think I do. Thats totally bananas. If I hate any race, that is the insect race.
