Right peeps, this is my first post, and its a tricky one! I am currently trying to achieve photorealistic results with Maya nHair and MentalRay. I know some people would simply suggest V-Ray/Arnold/Renderman, but I need this to work within a fresh Maya install so MentalRay it is. At present, this is simply a hair system attached to a sphere with 40 subdivs in both axes. The sphere is scaled to be roughly the same size as a human head (10cm in diameter). I am trying to replicate my fiancés hair and I would love some juicy feedback so fire away!
