SUBODH DANKE FELICITATED BY GREATER MUMBAI AMATEUR AQUATIC ASSOCIATION Renowned Swimming Coach Subodh Danke, who was recently conferred the prestigious ‘Shiv Chhatrapati Award’ for sustained excellence as a Coach by the Government of Maharashtra, was felicitated by the Greater Mumbai Amateur Aquatic Association (‘GMAAA’) the Association which administers aquatics in the city of Mumbai, on February 16, 2014 during the Khar Gymkhana Swim Marathon. The celebrated coach was bestowed upon the honour of GMAAA’s ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ for having achieved excellence as a Water polo player/Swimming Coach/Administrator and his dedicated commitment to serve the sport selflessly. Coach Danke was presented with a beautiful plaque on the occasion at the hands of the swimmers who have benefitted from his outstanding coaching/training programme. Pradeep Divgikar, President of GMAAA and an old friend of Coach Danke extolled the virtues, discipline, dedication, commitment, and exemplary loyalty that Coach Danke has displayed while wearing several hats with equal felicity. He took a trip down memory lane when he highlighted Subodh’s achievements as a water polo player par excellence and the wonderful transition he was able to make while dedicating his life to swim coaching and administration. Coach Danke accepted the accolade with his trademark modesty and dedicated the Award to the Khar Gymkhana which has stood by him rock like in support at every critical juncture in his life and provided him unstinted support in implementing his swim training programme unhindered for over 30 long years. He also dedicated the Award to his swimmers who through their excellent performances have earned him the recognition. Lastly, he thanked the GMAAA of which he is the General Secretary for this Honour. Coach Danke was accorded a standing ovation by the goodly Sunday crowd which had gathered to witness the unique Swim Marathon, an event conceived by Coach Danke himself.
