SURVEY ON HT POWER LINE PASSING THRU KODAGU COMMENCES AMIDST PROTEST Srimangala (Kodagu), Nov.20- The survey for laying the 400 kv Mysuru-Kozhikode High Tension (HT) line via Kodagu commenced at Hoovinakaadu estate at Kutta amidst tight Police security yesterday. The work on the controversial high tension line, passing through Kodagu, which was started a few months back, had been stopped on account of monsoon. As part of the survey, Power Grid Corporation officials identified the spot to erect poles for the HT lines in Hoovinakadu estate. Around 200 Police personnel were deployed for security, including four platoons of Reserve Police, with DySP Kumar Chandra supervising the security. On learning about the survey, a large number of people thronged the spot and the crowd picketed Madikeri Tahsildar Krishna, who too was at the spot in the morning. Krishna’s comment that the survey work had commenced under directions from Kodagu DC Anurag Tiwari drew flak from the protesting farmers. They urged the Deputy Commissioner to visit the spot and receive a memorandum from them. But the DC, expressing his inability to visit the spot to the Tahsildar and DySP, asked the protestors to come to his office instead, which enraged the farmers. The protestors alleged that the district administration had repeatedly ignored their pleas for an alternative route for the HT line. Meanwhile, Kodagu ZP President Shareen Subbaiah who visited the spot, urged the DC to hold discussions with farmers to resolve the issue. Pointing out that the starting of work on the HT line is not correct when there was severe opposition to the project, she asserted that she was always supportive to the cause of farmers agitating against the project.
