Senior Birdman of India Bikram Grewal has been treating us to a display of the rarest of rare artwork on birds of India from his fabulous collection. While Orissa is in the grip of the Pale-capped Pigeon fever with a special cover on the special bird to be released by India Post, here is an album of some of the most fabulous paintings of Indian Pigeons and Doves that appear in renowned ornithologist ECS Stuart Bakers 1913 book Indian Pigeons and Doves. These illustrations are credited to artists H. Grönvold and G.E. Lodge. A visual treat for bird lovers, these illustrations with the descriptions in the book give an understanding of the great field work and minute research that went into the study of birds in an age of slow communication and lack of advanced field-aids and gadgets. What I loved about these beautiful illustrations is that every bird is portrayed in its habitat.
