Shawn Perdue, I am honored to be your wife. Your article touched me to the point I had to share it. I love you! I love being able to do life with you & witness how God is using you. Dont worry Be Happy “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). All to often something happens to us or to our loved ones, and we carry the burden of it with us. Whether it is ill health, the loss of a Job or the death of a friend or family member. We take it personal, We deal with the stress of the situation by pushing it down. We quietly let it eat us up inside. Often times it is stuff we can not change, things that in the big picture we have no control over. But it effects us in a way that leaves our hearts heavy and our burdens many. David tells us in Psalms 55:22 to “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall”. Many of us can read this passage and struggle over one word “righteous”. We struggle that God would take my burdens if I was only righteous, but I dont feel righteous. I don’t feel like I deserve what God is offering me. There are things we are not willing to let go of, burdens we have kept locked up for years and we dont know how we will feel not having them anymore. We cling to our troubles like Linus to his blanket from the comic strip Peanuts. They are what we feel comfortable with, we realize we will never make that mistake again if we only hold on to the feelings of sorrow and regret. If we keep reminding ourselves of how bad we feel, we wont travel down that path again. But we are missing the truth that if we Let Go, and Let God we will never have to feel that pain again. Worry is referenced 53 times throughout the Bible(ERV) and 24 times in the New Testament. We read in Philippians 4:6 Dont worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks for what you have. Luke 21:34 puts worrying right up there with getting drunk; Be careful not to spend your time having parties and getting drunk or worrying about this life. If you do that, you wont be able to think straight, and the end might come when you are not ready. Happy on the other hand is referenced 397 times throughout the Bible(ERV). In John 15:11 Jesus says I have told you these things so that you can have the true happiness that I have. I want you to be completely happy. Happy is used throughout the ERV in place joy in the KJV. But the message is the same God wants us to feel joy over worry and Happy over sadness. Jesus came so that we may live, and be happy that in him we are redeemed. When we start to feel the weight of the world, all we need to do is remember we have a truth and a happiness in Jesus that can not keep us down.
