Sheikh Abdur Rehman, teacher at ‘Madrasha Dinia Madania’, - TopicsExpress

Sheikh Abdur Rehman, teacher at ‘Madrasha Dinia Madania’, hardly 20 steps away from the blast site, minced no words while criticizing a section of media that ‘wrongly’ dragged this madrasa into a controversy claiming that some of its students were missing. While talking about a purported training center in another village – linked with the two women arrested from the blast site – newspapers such as Anandabazar Patrika had used photograph of this madrassa. Madrasha Dinia Madania, running since 1968, is registered under Rabita-E Madaris-e-Islamia Arabia, the umbrella body of religious institutions. “Our madrassa had closed for vacation from October 2 till 17 for Eid ul Adha and hence most students had gone home, incidentally that same morning,” Maulana Rehman told TCN. Locals appeared angry at the way their locality and community was being portrayed largely due to insensitive reporting by regional media. In fact, the spot had turned a la “Peepli Live” for this otherwise nondescript locality as several media persons descended for sport reporting. “They ask us something, we honestly tell them what the situation is, but they deliberately seem to be presenting a construed picture,” many of the residents said, and reiterated, “Their – media persons’ – only aim appeared to negatively present Islam and Muslims and to create a rift between Muslims and non-Muslims, who have otherwise been living peacefully and harmoniously together in the state.” By Zaidul Haque
