Shopkeeper booked for raping minor in Sindri SINDRI: A shopkeeper was booked late on Tuesday on charges of raping a minor. Baliapur police has booked Suraj Vishwakarma for committing the crime. According to the FIR lodged by the father of the victim, the girl is a student of Class VIII and was walking back to her home in Mohanpur village from Baliapur market when Vishwakarma, along with three others, stopped her near Sindurpur rivulet and forcibly took her to a nearby bush and raped her. While the others waited for their turn, a villager heard her screams for help and raised an alarm. By the time the passersby assembled there, the rapist along with his friends fled the scene. Initially some local political party leaders tried to convince her father not to lodge a complaint citing social stigma attached to rape. However, a group of angry villagers insisted on arresting the culprit and informed the police. Police then lodged a case of rape against Vishwakarma and others. Raids were also conducted at night to nab the culprits but to no avail. According to officer in charge of Baliapur police station NK Singh, the girl was sent for medical examination on Wednesday but the reports are awaited.
