Silicon Valleys biggest risk is becoming arrogant like Detroit was - TopicsExpress

Silicon Valleys biggest risk is becoming arrogant like Detroit was in the 1950s and 1960s before Japanese cars almost put the carmakers out of business. Originally, SV entrepreneurs focused on solving problems, but over time, technology became a god, a stream of shiny new gadgets designed to get people to consume more and more -- basically, product-push, not market-pull. Today, the big challenges are not the Next New shiny product, rather solving major social, economic, and environmental problems (i.e. demand-pull) like housing, food, energy, water, climate change, human slavery, megacities, sanitation, poverty, etc. If SV fails to address these major problems, it will become irrelevant and bankrupt like Detroit became. My advice as a SV resident: Wake up before its too late! We have lots of problems to solve and SV can make a huge difference. wired/2014/02/silicon-valley-backlash/
