Since last Saturday, I have worked three jobs and over 50 hours. While pretty exhausted, with an apartment and cats well-neglected, I am very happy and looking forward to the checks I will receive in September. Im mostly really happy with my job at Central Co-op. I have been looking for a regular job in Seattle for three years now and I think I finally found it! The most important things Ive looked for in a job are: 1. Do I make sense for the job? 2. Can I walk to work? 3. Can I be proud or, more accurately, unashamed of what I will do? I dont even really care about how much money I can earn at a job either. Its more about those three things listed above. And at Central Co-op, all those questions are answerable with big, undeniable yeses. I absolutely enjoy every single person Ive met and worked with. Everything we do at Central Co-op serves our local communities in a positive, thoughtful, sustaining, and conscientious way - so every day I can walk home from work with my head held high. Much different from my 20s, when Id come home from waiting tables feeling dirty inside, knowing I was helping few and enabling most - making a few rich men richer, rather than making my community better. I am excited to continue working there. Who knows. Maybe after this year is over, I will move from Substitute Worker to Full-Time employee. The benefits are great and you can see how well the organization cares for the workers, the 13,000 owners, guests, and the community as a whole.
