Snowfall on heights, light rain in plains witnessed SRINAGAR: Upper reaches experienced light to moderate snowfall while some plain areas had rains, resulting in cold in the Kashmir valley, where warm cloths and woollen are already out. However, sun was playing hide and seek today in the summer capital, Srinagar, where the minimum temperature was about five degree, above normal due to cloudy weather during the night. A Met department said Western Disturbances (WD), which had originated in the Arabian sea and entered the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan will remain active during the next 24 hours. Snowfall in the heights and rain in plains has been predicted during the next 24 hours, he said. Official sources said light snowfall was recorded at Zojila on Srinagar-Leh national highway early this morning. However, the highway, the only road connecting the Ladakh region with the rest of the state, was through so far. However, upper reaches in Zojila, Sonmarg and Baltal, base camp of Holy Amarnath cave shrine had turned white due to fresh snowfall early this morning, resulting in considerable cold because of icy cold winds. The Holy Amarnath cave and its periphery also experienced moderate to heavy snowfall since last night. Reports of snowfall were also received from Sheshnag, Mahaguns, Panjterni and Pisso top on traditional Pahalgam-cave route. However, at Pahalgam the sky was cloudy since this morning.
