~ So many ornaments collected over the years and my favorite ones were made by my boys. But EVERY year, this single, simple, sheet - metal star that hangs with bright red yarn...stops me in my tracks. Made by my Dad, on his machines, in the basement of the home I grew up in. My Dad was brilliant, a mechanical engineer, had a ton of patents for things like....an isolator/switching assembly for data processing terminals, modular data processing apparatus with heat disappating and locking means for helically MOVABLE elements for locking threaded bolt for securing computer memory modules, (HUH?) and even a golf club that had loft adjusting means. He left this world a better and more brilliant place because of what he poured into it. But that star...that sweet, beautiful, simple, pressed-sheet metal star that hangs on my tree with bright red yarn...reminds me of what he poured into me and makes me miss every simple, complex, mechanical, unexplainable and loving thing about him.
