Spade Mortar? Whilst browsing through the latest edition of The Armourer magazine to reach our shores (from the U.K.), I noticed that those inventive Russians had proposed and indeed manufactured (at least in small numbers) a combination spade/entrenching tool and light mortar. Intended for use in the Winter War of 1939-40 with Finland, the idea didnt really take off. The projectile had a limited range, light explosive payload, and was thought to have been expensive to produce compared to its effectiveness.
