Speaking of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement, I - TopicsExpress

Speaking of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement, I got a message about why Im promoting so much hate and whether I would in my right mind teach my own child to boycott Israel. So, in reply, no, Im not, and yes, I would. Im not promoting hatred; Im promoting standing up for values. I would teach my child to boycott Israel and I would teach him why; that Israel has been found by the International Court of Justice to be violating international laws, and continues to enjoy impunity, and that as law-abiding citizens of the world we have a responsibility to pressure Israel to act within the confines of the law. Think of it this way: if your child had a classmate who bullied other children during recess, would you advise your child to continue playing with the bully after he beats another child up? Or would you advise your child to stand up for the victim and tell the bully that s/he should apologise if s/he wants to play with him? So, yes. I actively avoid buying the products of companies that aid the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land for my child. And as he gradually gains an understanding of consumer behaviour, I will teach him that his behaviour as a consumer is an effective tool to promote good values. Hopefully, he wont be an apathetic consumer, who blindly follows his wants no matter the consequences. #BDS
