Summer Travel Advice Hello, out-of-state friends. Summer is upon us, and you are anxious to travel to the beautiful, white sand beaches of Walton County, Florida. Why wouldnt you be? The scenery alone is enough to beckon you from your typical surroundings. Youll be able to come on down, sit a spell, and relax. We look forward to your visit! Before you come visit us, though, Id like to offer some advice. Saturdays, being the days you check in and out of your condos or beach houses, our roads have a system. Traveling north in the morning is--um--slow. When I say slow, I mean pack a lunch! You think going to Disney and waiting three hours to ride Splash Mountain was a bit much? Youve never participated in the Saturday morning exodus! Check-out time, as it is most everywhere else, is around 10:00 AM. Every car leaving the state will be on the Florida highways between 8:00 and 10:00 AM. Thats just how it seems to go around here. I would recommend staying in a cheap hotel room Saturday night and leaving Sunday morning. Heck! Youll get to enjoy another day on our beautiful beaches! Right now, you might be asking, Whats your advice for those of us checking in? The answer to that is easy, my friends. Stay in that cheap hotel room Friday night! That morning traffic I was telling you about? Well, about noontime or 1:00 PM around here, things change. The northbound lanes free up. The southbound lanes, however, take their turn. Check-in time in these parts is about 3:00 PM, and you guessed it. Everyone seems to show up at the same time. So, come join us Friday night and get some rest, or schedule your arrival earlier Saturday morning. You can stop somewhere and have a nice breakfast/brunch/lunch and get some sightseeing done before you go to your vacation home. Most of us native Waltonians will not see you as you are coming or going on Saturday. We will be home. Relaxing. Not sitting in traffic. We will see you later in the week as we do our usual thing and you are looking for that tub of aloe vera. (I kid! ... Sort of) We hope you enjoy visiting Walton County as much we love living here. If anyone asks you for travel advice, though, these tips you just read? Shhhhhhh! Theyre our little secret.
