Sunday 8th Sep, 2013. ORIGIN OF SCRIPTURE 2 Peter 1:16 “All scripture is God breathed and it’s useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness”. There are endless opinions and philosophies about life and about how we should live, that could be read and studied forever. It is not wrong to study these opinions but they should not take the place of God’s Word in our lives. The majority of our time should be spent on studying God’s word, just as we feed our physical bodies with the right foods and vitamins in order to stay healthy. Our time here on earth is so short, such that only the wisdom of God can help guide our thought in the right direction. Important truth that will lead us to eternity is found only in the scripture and without digging into it we cannot lead righteous lives. The teacher in Ecclesiastes 12:12 says “Be warned, my son of anything in addition to them making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body”. The much study referred to here is not the study of our God’s word, because we can never exhaust the hidden treasures in the scripture but the study of philosophies and theory can weary man’s soul into confusion. Many in today’s world have opted to serve satan because they chose to read wide into different religions with comparison to God’s word and by so doing lost the meaning that should have been gained if dedicated to the Holy Spirit for understanding. 2 Timothy 3:16 “ All scripture is breathed and is useful….” God is the origin of the scripture as we also see in today’s Bible reading and since understanding and interpretation of the word can only come by the power of the Holy Spirit. David in Psalm 19:7-11 testifies of the power and efficacy of God’s word as to being radiant and giving light to the eyes. God’s words are more precious than gold to the soul that is open to gaining understanding by the Holy Spirit. When we live in the word and feed on it, Jesus said we will bear fruits that will last. See John 15:5. So David ended his psalm for the day with a prayer that the words of his mouth and the meditation of his heart be pleasing to God. Do you find in anyway contradictions in God’s word? God’s word is flawless, it heals the man’s spirit, soul and body, it cannot be interpreted by man because it has no origin in man. The beginning and the end of the world is God, why then try to find the meaning of His word outside him? Let us draw near to God and fix our hearts and eyes on Him to interpret His word to our hearts and eyes on Him to interpret His word to our hearts and bring its radiance in our eyes because there is life. Prayer: Sweet Jesus, Lord Holy, thank you for giving me the word of a father. May the words that I speak and think of come from the power of your word in Jesus name! Amen!
