ANC LEADERS IN MOSES MABHIDA REGION ELECTED UNOPPOSED The top five of the African National Congress’ Moses Mabhida Region have been elected unopposed during the two-day elective conference which has been characterised by unity and vigorous debates. Moses Mabhida Region which incorporates the City of Pietermaritzburg is the third biggest region of the African National Congress in KwaZulu-Natal. The conference began on Saturday and delegates have just unanimously elected Cde Super Zuma as the Chairperson, Cde Chris Ndlela as the Deputy Chairperson, Cde Mzi Zuma as the Secretary, Cde Maphindi Zondi as the Deputy Secretary and Cde Pat Jama as the Treasurer. This is the third of the ANC’s regional elective conferences in the province and the rest are expected to hold their conferences before the end of the year. It was officially opened by the ANC Provincial Chairperson Cde Senzo Mchunu. Upbeat new Chairperson described the manner in which the new regional leadership was elected as a clear indication that the ANC was united and that it would continue playing its role in taking the province of KwaZulu-Natal to greater heights. The region would among other things ensure that Umgungundlovu District Municipality, which includes municipalities such as Msunduzi (which incorporates the City of Pietermaritzburg), gets a Metro status, Cde Super Zuma said after he was elected. “The manner in which this conference is conducted shows that our region is united. This puts us in a very good position to continue focusing on changing the lives of millions of our people who continue to bestow their unwavering support for the ANC during the elections. We dare not to disappoint people who love and trust the ANC. Delegates here have made it abundantly clear that they would like us as the leadership to continue pursuing the idea of having the second Metro in KwaZulu-Natal. We will continue working with the Provincial leadership to ensure that indeed Umgungundlovu becomes a Metro council,” said Zuma. Issued by the ANC in Moses Mabhida Region
