THE FINAL CUT There was a time, when the surgeons were part of the barber tribe, so much so, the Victorians used to address us as “Barber Surgeons”. The surgeons had to do lot of hard work, refinements, and updating to be considered as part of the physician community; but as Karmic cycle goes on, it is the turn of the barbers now!! We were driving past the newly opened “Ambika Pillai Hair Studio” ,in Trivandrum. My wife expressed her “humble” desire to have her hair cut in this studio, and cajoled me to pay for the expenses. Guessing the costs to be around a thousand bucks, I agreed halfheartedly, when she confirmed that she wanted the hair to be cut by the iconic Ms. Pillai herself. “OK, anyone with a comb & pair of scissors can cut the hair; so what’s the big deal?” Wifey said a vehement NO, and if her hair is to be cut by Ms. Pillai , who charges in five digits - I felt darkness creeping in my eyes, whirling of my head and I passed out . Our hair transplant surgeon, who painstakingly puts in hair grafts on bald heads, gets a pittance, compared to the grand dame who mercilessly chops them off!!!!!
