#TORONTO— A high-speed police chase ended with a minivan knocking down a hydro pole, hitting a parked car and crashing into a parking meter early Saturday morning. The chase began on Hwy. 401 shortly after 1 a.m. where the OPP were conducting RIDE spot checks. The driver of the minivan made a U-turn ahead of time to avoid the check. Officers pursued the van, where the driver took the Avenue Rd. exit onto Wilson Ave., and crashed a few blocks away just west of Bathurst St. Two men ran away from the scene, but Toronto Police, who were in the area for an unrelated matter, were able to apprehend them. They were then arrested by the OPP and taken to hospital with minor injuries. During the chase, the minivan hit a hydro pole, knocking it down and cutting power in the area temporarily. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
