So... To vote in the upcoming election, you must have either: • a Texas drivers license or ID card • a passport • a U.S. Military photo ID • a U.S. Citizenship or Naturalization Certificate with photo, or • a concealed handgun license This ID must be current, or have expired after Sept. 6. Texas residents who have none of those can get a free Election Identification Certificate (EIC) at any Texas Driver License office. Applicants must bring a valid voter registration card, plus proof of U.S. citizenship and identity. (For most people, that means a certified birth certificate, and one other form of official ID such as a social security card, military ID, expired drivers license, school records, car registration – theres a long list at dps.texas.gov/driverlicense/eicdocreqmnts.htm if youre uncertain.) The EIC is free, and is valid for six years, or forever for those over 70, or maybe just until Texas voter ID law is overturned for good. Youll get a photo receipt at the office thats valid immediately; the card itself will be mailed to you.
