Texarkana USA, Monday, April 26, 10:34 PM It was a stone, almost four centimeters diameter, hurled by an anonymous assailant from some place unseen and for reasons unknown...that struck my right temple. The bleeding was profuse as are most head wounds but the damage was minor. I was glad to have been turned broadside to the projectile since a few degrees to port would likely have left me one-eyed. The daze and the headache that followed were what anyone would expect, having been so struck but what affected me most of all was the fact of someone actually stoning another. It quickly became apparent that this was no stray tossed by some naughty boy, for what ensued was a literal barrage of stones all intended to do harm and to stop our activities. And what of those activities? We were singing...thats right...singing. And some of you who read this post will remember the event. Such is one of my earliest recollections of what people can do and will do and how they justify their actions. In the moment I thought of recourse or at least redress but then second thoughts overtook the pain and disgust and produced sorrow---sorrow for someone so disposed as to harm another whose only intention was to love. But then, there is nothing new about that. The world is a place where love is seldom expressed in real terms and where the bold and daring test the resolve of the simple and humble. I have to say it takes a lot more courage to stand up and continue to love than it does to hide in ones misdemeanors. After all, once a stone is hurled, there is just one less to be hurled. But to love, one will draw from an unending Source where love continues to rise despite the antagonism and frightful, even life-threatening events that come of it. And, as there is a benefit to everything that happens, I learned that one will do well to keep the eyes wide open, the heart determined to love...and from time to time...DUCK! God bless you all.
