Thanksgiving Have you ever give thanks for things youre yet to receive? You started the year with several demands, possibly with conditions, God if you can do this, Ill do that; if you can give this, Ill serve you with everything I have.... So, what if He has not done it? Doesnt make him less of The living God. We tend to forget most times that God also has conditions to His blessing. If you will obey and do His will, if you will trust in Him and not try to find a solution on your own; If youll rely on Him, instead of finding short cuts; if you will surrender, instead of trying to help him; if you will let go, instead of avenging; if you will pray more, instead of grumbling all the time; if youll help with the little you have, instead of being stingy. If youre not willing to use the little you have now like the servant with one talent, who thinks the master was trying to reap where he has not sown; he could have put it to use and wait to see the benefit. We expect so much from God, but were not willing to do anything in return. You prayed hard, but had no faith. You gave up on yourself already, or you wont take a step of faith because you fear youre going to fail. Everyone around you are supposedly looking for your failure or downfall, and you forgot to look inward to see the root of your failure. Praying should be followed with action. A student praying to pass exam should have prepared by reading, not thinking of expo or seeing exam questions in the dream. Hardworking bring forth success. No matter how long and hard you prayed, you have to do your part. There is nothing God cannot do, but there are so many things he might choose not to do. So many times when we pray, we are so focused on what we thought we need that we ignored His will. We want to receive a positive response in a twinkle of an eye, we just want what we want and nothing more. Most of the time, we loose focus of His intended will because of what our heart wants. If we can always have our way, it would have led to destruction of our soul possibly. However, God cares so much that he will not to allow us to suffer. Whenever He says no, He has a genuine reason, not what we want but for our benefit. You have so many list of what your heart desires, and youve prayed as hard and long as you could, but you have nothing to show for it. You think you have nothing to be thankful for, youve not been to the hospital this year for any major illness, you can still pay your bills, youre not jobless, you were not kidnapped for a ransom. Everyday you hear of arm robbers attacking your neighborhood, or even on the road. You travel almost every week, had no accident, you have a home you can always go back to. You have a husband or wife and children that love and adore you, your marriage survived again this year. So many couples went through divorce and still going through it. The list goes on and on. Most importantly, you are alive in good health. Did I hear you say youve been having some health issues? Oh well, even if that is true, some are on the hospital bed with excruciating pain and if they could just be out of the hospital for just a day, they will be most grateful. You are still alive and healthy. For the past 11 months, God has been protecting you all the way. There are so many who started this year, but they are no more. Even if you have only one cloth, be grateful for that. If you can only afford one meal a day, be grateful for that. For those who know how to be grateful, always receive more. Thank God for what He has done and what He is yet to do. For at the appointed time, He will do the rest. Shalom, Liz Olufunke Olaoye
