The $15 minimum wage movement in a nutshell: They can afford - TopicsExpress

The $15 minimum wage movement in a nutshell: They can afford to pay me $15 an hour, so they should! They can provide for their families with their jobs! Why shouldnt I be able to do the same?! Because if they didnt work in their high-paying job, somebody else from some other company would hire them, more than likely. Whos clamoring to hire you? If you double the expense in one aspect of a companys overhead, theyre going to cut expenses proportionately to balance it out. Its a simple equation set equal to zero. How are people missing this? Maybe thats why theyre not getting paid $15 an hour. Employers and managers dont cut your hours because youre a good worker but they cant afford it. They cut your hours when youre not a good worker. So forcing them to pay more money to you because you arent making enough as it is is, essentially, saying to an employer, Oh, so its not worth it to keep me on for 40 hours a week at minimum wage now, huh? OKAY! Then, how about I push to make it not worth keeping me as an employee at ALL!
