The Canadian Adventure continues. We spent most of the second day - TopicsExpress

The Canadian Adventure continues. We spent most of the second day driving from Detroit up to Ottawa, Canada, where our coach’s friend, Joe Chouinard lived. Joe owned some property on a lake in Quebec, which is where our coach, Tom Cooney had told us that we were going to be staying. So we followed Joe about a hundred miles into French speaking Canada only to find out, when we got to the lake, that it was undeveloped property and on a fairly steep hillside, with the only flat spot being the ten feet before you got to the water’s edge. So here we are setting up 3 tents that Joe had in the trunk of his car, in pitch darkness, on the side of a hill, without air mattresses, or running water, let alone a functioning toilet. For the next week, it didn’t matter where you started out trying to sleep in the tent, by the next morning you were at the bottom of the tent, either on top of someone else or with someone on top of you. Was our coach joining us in this bonding experience? Hell no. He was spending two weeks back in Ottawa at Joe’s house. He just drove out every two or three days and brought us food and beer. Thank god for Dave Miro. Dave the Rave soon became Mama Miro and did most of the cooking that first week, which saved us. It’s also where I learned that beer on corn flakes isn’t nearly as bad as you might think, since there was no way to refrigerate dairy products.
