The Chessmates Back-to-School Classic was a great success as 80 K-12 students from Baton Rouge, other parishes and even Texas competed in a day of fierce chess play. Our deepest gratitude to IBM for sponsoring...but equally important for sending IBM volunteers who coached students on chess moves between rounds, helped as tournament assistants and assisted with registration. We can never say enough great things about our City Year Baton Rouge members who show up early and stay late, and are willing to do anything needed. They served as registrars, tournament assistants, bookstore helpers, break down team and everything in-between. We are grateful to Northeast High School, principal Brandon Levatino and chess club sponsors Sara Wilson-Rogers and Jimmy Le. Its a great start to a school year and chess tournaments. Thanks to everyone!
