The Congresses of our Great Unions (ASUP & COEASU) met between Wed.- Thurs. 9th to 10th July, 2014 to review the ongoing strike action that had lingered for 5 months. Based on the UNANIMOUS decision of Congresses, the strike action would continue until festering issues are resolved up to implementation and actionable level. The offers made to us by Government so far are still promises which are not sufficient to inspire our collective confidence. Specifically, the Contributory Pension scheme, obnoxious tax regime, recruitment of staff and others are still far from being resolved. While the 65year policy has been passed into law by the State Legislature, it is not conclusive until the Governor assents to it and we have it gazetted and circulated to us by the office of the Head of Service and until the fate of people forcefully disengaged from service is amicably resolved. Meanwhile, we implore Government to speed up action towards resolution of these issues most especially in the interest of our students and the general public.
