The Game ©2013 by Richard B. Kahn When a person wants to create a new game, first the game must be defined: What objects are to be used? How many players? What are the rules? Where is the game to be played? Then the game developer creates the objects, brings a group together, and explains the rules to the group. The group then may say either they like the game as is and want to play. Or they may make suggestions to change the objects used, the number of players, or the rules to the game, or they may say they do not like the game and will go elsewhere to find a different game or just do nothing at all. Once the game is underway, the players may decide they do not like some aspect of the game and want to make a change to the objects, number or type of players, or the rules of the game. Some players may decide they do not like the game once it is underway and want to leave. Some may propose changes to be voted on by the group. Each category of player may attempt to persuade the others to his or her point of view. The person who wants to leave may encourage others to do the same. The others may suggest certain changes to keep the group together. There is a back-and-forth which is to be agreed upon by anyone who wishes to stay in the game. No one is forced to stay if they conclude the game is not for them. What about the people who do not want to play anymore? Perhaps some of these people want to use the playing surface currently used by the people still playing the game. That person or those people may wish to negotiate with the game players for fair use of the playing surface. Perhaps the non-players want to use some of the objects used by the players. Again, they negotiate a fair price for use of the objects. It is never appropriate for the non-players to just seize the playing surface or objects of the game from the players. Similarly, it is never appropriate for the players to seize whatever assets in use by the non-players.
