The Lord our God made a covenant with us at Horeb (Mt. Sinai). The - TopicsExpress

The Lord our God made a covenant with us at Horeb (Mt. Sinai). The Lord did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, with all those of us alive here today. (Deuteronomy 5:2-3) ~ This is a very revealing verse about Gods eternal presence and covenant to all generations. Here the Israelites are about to enter the promised land. They have wandered the desert for 40 years, everyone 20 years old at that time and older are dead, and everyone present probably barely remembers or doesnt remember at all what got them to that point today. Well, Moses is informing them so it will be fresh on their minds as they go into the very land God promised them over 40 years ago. Moses began with a history lesson and is now about to remind them of the covenant God made as well as the law that was given. Something really interesting though is how Moses began this part. He emphasized the fact that God made a covenant with US! Not our distant ancestors, not with just our fathers, but with US! On Mt. Sinai, when Moses met God face to face, when God gave Moses the 10 Commandments and the law, it was for US that are alive today! This is an everlasting covenant that is passed on from generation to generation. Gods covenant is eternal because He is eternal. Now that covenant was changed when Christ came on the scene. Christ came and completely fulfilled every aspect and requirement for this covenant instilled a new covenant. This new covenant is salvation by grace through faith because of the perfect sacrifice Christ made on the cross. The only reason we are now under a new covenant is because God replaced the old one. God I eternal, and the covenant made is for all those of us alive here today. Let us not forget Gods covenant with us!
