The ‘Pack deliver a pounding in the Palouse The Wolfpack welcomed #52 Steve Jarman back after an extended absence from the field as he was in Western Washington assisting with the mudslide relief and recovery efforts. Even though across the state, these events hit close to home and #52 Jarman’s return reminded the ‘Pack that they are lucky to play the game they love and even luckier to serve the communities they live in. April 12th marked the second meeting of the Wolfpack and the Palouse Thunder. The previous match was a non-league pre-season match up where only half the team (Wolfpack Omega) played in a 28 – 7 victory. This time the game was for real and the full ‘Pack traveled to Colfax, WA to face the Thunder in a storied rivalry WFL game. In reality, this wasn’t much of a game at all. The ‘Pack for the second week in a row put up over 60 points in a game while holding their opponent to 14 or less. #11 Zach Clow lead the first half by rushing for a touchdown, throwing to #0 Jess Henderson for another, and going 4 of 4 on extra points before exiting the game with an injury. The rest of the game belonged to #3 Kenny Yetter who rushed for his own score, threw touchdown passes to #7 Bobby Hughes and #4 Marquis Allen, and connected with #21 Brandon Fisher on a two-point conversion. #7 Hughes, who bore the brunt of rushes and again surpassing the century mark, also rushed for a touchdown during the first half. #5 Jerrall Haynes left the game during the first quarter due to illness while #27 Adam Anderson and #33 Justin Muesy helped pile on the yards. #33 Muesy also got in on the scoring action by going 1 for 2 on extra points replacing #11 Clow in the second half. #2 Martea Johnson showed his burst and shiftiness by getting his first touchdown of the season on a 17 yard run. The game wasn’t all on the ground as #0 Henderson, #85 Kaymen Owens, and #9 Alex deGolia all had 4 or more catches at the receiver position in a balanced attack. The game cannot be credited solely to the offensive skill players as #51 Gary Plumlee, #74 Dane Weed, #73 Jeff Boyd, #54 Simone Cudmore, #72 Drew Hollinberger, and #76 Maximillion Nole kept the Quarterbacks upright, opened holes for the Running Backs, and were the foundation for all of the offensive points scored. Defensively, #25 Brian Spiller continues to make his presence felt along with fellow Safety #6 Chris Kirk and corners #2 Johnson and #1 Daniel Mallory. Linebackers #12 Tyrone Swan, #20 Mike Glenn, and #8 Scott Word continue to roam the flats making big hits and stuffing runs. #65 Demetrius Palmer, #72 Hollinberger, #73 Boyd, #51 Plumlee, #54 Cudmore, #0 Henderson, #55 Josh Budik, and #59 Rob Drass provide solid defensive line rotational play wreaking havoc in the backfield. #24 Clark Pauls leads the way as he continues to play solid with big hits, tackles for losses, sacks, and anything else you can think of. The defense also got in on the scoring action as a #0 Henderson sack and forced fumble was picked up by #20 Glenn who ran 23 yards to the house. Last, but not least, Special Teams again had a score for the second straight week. A bobbled punt that ended up in a fumble was scooped up by #24 Pauls who sprinted 26 yards for a touch. The final score: 61 – 14. The Wolfpack move to 2 – 0 (2 – 0) and face a new found rival in the Wenatchee Valley Rams, 2 – 1 (1 – 1), in their first home game of the season. Kickoff is at 2 pm in Joe Albi Stadium and will be the first Annual Pop Warner Appreciation Game.
