The Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam said: “He is not of us who does not show mercy to our young ones and respect and honor our elders”. Few days back in a hospital, I saw a man in his eighties, barley able to walk, leaning on his 18 year old son. The love, mercy and honor that were glowing from the boy’s eyes were a marvelous thing to see. Moments later, a man rushed to the ER carrying his seven year old child who was in pain and crying. While the doctor and nurses were working on him, the father stood by his side, rubbing his head with love and compassion. What a beautiful religion that orders us to be kind and merciful to such vulnerable people. Compare this with nursing homes where the elders are thrown and left for dead in some non-Muslim countries.
