The Sun just released a large solar prominence. About 40 Earths - TopicsExpress

The Sun just released a large solar prominence. About 40 Earths could be placed side-by-side along the prominence. It can be seen erupting on the Northwestern limb of the Sun. The prominence then hurled out from the Sun as a CME (Coronal Mass Ejection). These images are seen by the Extreme Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (EIT) on the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO). EIT observed this prominence with it 304 Angstrom filter. This big blob of hot plasma (billions of tons) is around 60,000 to 80,000 degrees Kelvin and traveling at 10s of thousands of miles per hour.
