The charter court, in particular, should accept cases with care because its rulings set the ultimate judicial precedent. I’m just so concerned when I see the Democrats appealing to the highest court more often than I go to my local 7-Eleven. As usual, I agree with Songkran Grachangnetaras verdict over the politicised judiciary. However, social reality being a construct and all, are we not abetting the attempt to cloak the coup in legalistic procedures by taking the pretense at face value? Or, the other way around, would the authority of the judiciary not crumble if they were stripped from the legitimacy of being neutral arbiters of the law, and simply referred to as for what they really are: figures on the chessboard, where elite factions are gambling for the control of Thailand?
