The doctrine of the Perseverance of the Saints is one of the most - TopicsExpress

The doctrine of the Perseverance of the Saints is one of the most misunderstood. It is not Once saved, always saved as that implies noting more than raising ones hand, standing up, marching an aisle, saying a prayer, filling out a card, getting wet....and then you got it and cant lose it. It implies no radical transformation of the sinful nature. It points to a moment in time when one DOES something and that God will honor that. It is like piece of scrap iron that fancies itself to be a sword because the blacksmith passed by one day. The Doctrine of Perseverance is more like when a blacksmith chooses a piece of iron and purposes to make a sword from it. He selects it and throws it into the fire. Its nature is changed, but is still not done yet. The blacksmith pulls the slag from the fire and begins to hammer out the imperfections, forming it into the shape of a sword. Once it has been shaped, sharpened, polished, and finished it is presented to the owner as the finest sword ever made. The iron does not become a sword because of the decision of the iron. It becomes a sword because of the decision of the blacksmith, and it is the blacksmith that sees that his purpose is brought through to completion. The blacksmith does not present a mere piece of scrap iron to the owner, but a fully formed sword. Likewise, we do not make a profession of faith and then return to our sinful life as if nothing has changed. He changes us and begins the PROCESS of forming us into the image of Christ as he hammers out the imperfections, shapes, polishes, and finishes us so that we may be presented to the Father as perfect upon our glorification.
