The “last days” in Scripture are not literally the end of the world, but the last days of the Old Covenant world that was passing away. Words like “end,” “end of the age,” and “the Day of the Lord” are end-time expressions, but they need not be taken to mean the end of the universe. The Old Covenant world was coming to an end, to be replaced by a new world of everlasting righteousness. If we correctly perceive this end as happening at the fall of Jerusalem, we cannot push back expectation of the second coming to some future age or time. A careful study of “last days” passages reveals a remarkable consistency in the scriptural record. -- Max R. King
