The life instruction manual (Holy Bible) says: Do not let your right hand know what your left hand is doing. When you do things in secret (without advertising and trumpeting your earthly achievements), God the father will be pleased and recognized your humility anyway. Or else, you already have your earthly rewards and God have no more room to elevate you. It is also said, those who are last will be 1st and those who seek to be 1st will be last. Unquote. It took me at least 17 years of daily reading and studying the bible passages before God gave compassion on me with little understanding why the quotations above were written in such manner. For example, a year before I graduated H. S. at GNC College in 1964 Jack Eagle and Vic Puno were 2 of my best friends then in Guagua, Pampanga. Jack looks like his father who was an American GI and Vic is another handsome Sucul, Sta. Ines boy. The 3 of us can stay together but not the 2 of them because they compete in all aspect of a teenage life. Thank God during my adolescent years God gave me the wisdom of putting myself last. Jack is so very proud of up-lifting himself always because of his caucasian looks and Vic will contradict Jack always. Jack always say, look at those girls, as we pass along, all of them will look at me not you guys. I will make no comment at all and in my thoughts, I always think - the guy is thirsty therefore I have to give him a drink. Meaning, drink of words of encouragement (papuri) perhaps Jack was less appreciated by most people around him while growing-up. Hence, Jack always appreciate my being with him not with Vic unfortunately. Simply because I do not go to the same level of negative pride of my 2 H.S. buddies. Today, my wife and I are active in the Couple for Christ Catholic movement. There are some incidents in the past 9 years similar incidents above challenges me with sheer temptations to commit sins of omissions. If God during my younger years gave me the gift of resisting temptations and at the present time, my goal in life is to be spiritual in Jesus name - why should I not faithfully follow Jesus in my old age when I did it at a younger age? Oh Lord please remind us always to follow your teachings and the gift of wisdom to understand them, to love and follow your will for the rest of our lives. Amen.
