The lovely wife and I went to a movie this evening. We saw - TopicsExpress

The lovely wife and I went to a movie this evening. We saw Boyhood and it is perhaps the best movie of the year. There was a couple sitting in front of us in the handicap row since the man was in a wheel chair. The movie is over two and half hours long so I needed to go to the rest room afterwards. We always watch the entire credits of a movie. When I got to the restroom the only person there was the man in the wheelchair. He was moving his chair to get into an advantageous position so that he could use the facility. I went by and said “Hi” and he replied “Hello”. I took care of my needs and passed him on the way to wash my hands. The theatre only has an air blower rather than paper towels. I remarked that I hate the stupid dryers and would prefer paper towels. The man laughed and replied that he also preferred paper towels. He then said “Thank you.” I was perplexed as to what I was being thanked for. He saw the look in my face and said “Thank you for treating me as a person”. “You have twiced talked to me as you interacted with me.” “Most people only see the chair and don’t interact with me as a person.” “You treated me as a person and I always thank people when they treat me as a person rather than a wheelchair.” This comment didn’t make me feel better rather it made me sad as a human. Sad because my fellow humans don’t take the time to interact with people different than them. So I challenge all of you to just say “Hello” to strangers. Let us see where that goes. HELLO
