The nearest star to earth (besides the sun) is named Alpha - TopicsExpress

The nearest star to earth (besides the sun) is named Alpha Centauri. It is 4.24 light years away. This means at the speed of light it would take 4.24 years to get there, as opposed to 8.5 minutes to get to the sun. The farthest man made object from earth is Voyager 1. It was launched in 1977 and is currently traveling over 17km per second (over 60,000 km/hr)! At its current location light would take 17.7 hours to reach it. This puts it 1/2,100th of the way to Alpha Centauri, giving it an ETA somewhere around the year 77577 AD. There are billions of stars in this galaxy alone and there are believed to be billions of galaxies in the universe. How naive it is of us to think we collectively know even 1% of all there is to know in the universe and then go on to emphatically and with much authority deny the existence of God.
